 Agreed: it could be usefully complemented by some hint at what the
 source of the problem could be. That being said, the backtrace is
 pretty useful to explore where the issue comes from (e.g. with post
 mortem debugging), and we would not want to completely suppress it.

 Anyway, that's an implementation detail that can most likely can be
 improved later on by adding more sanity checks.
