Hi Mike!
The is_constant protocol seems somewhat convoluted; from profiling,
Matthieu is telling me that it's taking a non trivial portion of the time.
Could it be possibly simplified? In particular, could we just get rid of
is_constant, and handle everything with a cached method
"get_constant_position" which would return infinity when appropriate?
