Comment:

 Ok. I added some more doctests. We should review #16439 and get that in,
 and get this in.

 There are three functions (in #16439) that still do not work, but probably
 no one uses them with complex input otherwise it wouldn't have remained
 buggy for a decade. I suggest we move them to another ticket.
