 what might help, conceptually, if one can do linear maps just as well as
 linear functions. Then, when, say, A and B are matrices, one could imagine
 to do
 {{{
 x = p.new_variable()
 y = p.new_variable()
 p.add_constraint(A*x+B*y <= c)
 }}}
 so that `A*x+B*y` is a linear map from the space of dimension
 `A.ncol()+B.ncol()` to the space of dimension `len(c)`.
