 tag in the git history, nothing more. You clone the git repository of Sage
 once for all and then get it updated by synchronizing it with the Sage git
 server.

 Well, not quite. It was because Andre had based his branch on 6.4.beta2,
 but there are many tickets out there which are based on various versions
 of Sage. The tag 6.4.beta2 (and others) actually refers to a specific
 commit in the git history as well, so you can do things like `git diff
 6.4.beta1` to see the differences between the current branch and
 6.4.beta1.
