Fails just the same way on 10.9 so it is not the OS version at fault. The
only thing I can think of is that the requirement for building gcc 4.8+
have been raised (that's not hypothetical, it is a fact) but I would be
surprised if
* the clang shipped was insufficient. That would be a well known problem
* surely it would break before stage 3
