So I bootstrapped this with gcc 4.7.3 from sage 6.4.beta5 and it worked so

The only thing I can think of is that the requirement for building gcc
4.8+ have been raised (that's not hypothetical, it is a fact) but I would
be surprised if

Apparently that's the case.
