In general I agree with ncohen here. Though:

Well, `NotImplementedError` is a special case, though. Maybe you can make
the error message really really obvious that it is GAP which doesn't have
this available, not that Sage has some error? Then it takes the sting
away - ''nobody'' can calculate it, it's not a Sage bug at all, just the
user wishing something got calculated that isn't, like an elementary
integral to sin(x)/x.
