 I see. This is important where the semantics of `cached_function` are
 really important.

 I always had in mind only the application of speeding up the function by
 not computing the same thing multiple times. For the latter application,
 you need to consider also the overhead of parsing `*args` and `**kwds` to
 compute the correct cache entry. Where speed is important, we might just
 use `*args` and `**kwds` instead.
