I've added documentation for the pitfall I have mentioned in comment:72.
Generally, I think Sage is lacking many warnings and implementation notes
that would make it easier (or even possible) to extend from the existing
classes as opposed to implementing new things from scratch because one
doesn't understand the old classes' structure. In many cases, they would
also help the reviewers review the patches (although in the current case
this was simple enough).
I'm also waiting for #15635 to be ready, but alas I cannot help with the
coercion :(
