Getting closer...
In the PCRE checks, `LIBS` gets restored from `r_save_LIBS`, but that's
(in my case) an obsolete value, because `r_save_LIBS` didn't get set in
''that'' check (i.e., the conditions for saving and restoring aren't the
same).
