I insstalled the branch and did "make" which rebuilt a very large amount.
Then

gave

HTTP Error 404: Not Found

Error contacting http://www.sagemath.org/spkg/standard/list. Try using an
alternative server.
For example, from the bash prompt try typing
export SAGE_SERVER=http://sage.scipy.org/sage/
then try again.

which also failed. SO I don't exactly know what it is that I am supposed
to be testing!
