No, what you did is correct. You should merge in the dependency branches.
If you don't need to, then there is no dependency. There are ways you can
look at the differences in the code from one branch to another using git:

git diff commit1 commit2
}}}
where `commit1` and `commit2` can be names of branches (which are simply
pointers to commits).
