 Hello Frédéric,

 I read in the paper that the order in which the replacements are performed
 did not matter (page 7, right before 'balanced trees').

 I tried to simplify the code a bit, and ended up with the commit I just
 pushed to this ticket's public branch. Could you give me your opinion?
