The previous behaviour seems not very useful. It would be nice to give the
graphic image itself included by latex. This could be done without using
the pgf output. Just include .png file. Anyway pgf is limited and cannot
represent all graphics, as far as I know.
By the way, my mac just finished doctesting for Sage 7.1.beta5 with the
current patch merged. It reports some failures.
