Apparently I never posted the other patch? Weird.
Anyway, as I mentioned above: the patch is big, but it's basically me
hitting `\C-t` in emacs a whole bunch to fix widths in the documentation.
(It was actually fairly unreadable from the command line.) All the
"action" is in `ell_generic.py`, where I'm just adding one new method.
