I see what's happened here. By mistake I downloaded the latest M4RI. I
have two packages in spkg/standard:

I rekon libm4ri-20100730.spkg was installed instead of the older one. But
since I'd not put in any of the patches, it fails.
In the short term I am going to remove the updated .spkg and build the
older one, then remake the library. Sage has been very unstable on 64-bit
SPARC, so I'm not keen to introduce even more possible issues that have
not been tested and found fine by many.
