 Thanks so much for trying this.  I think that it's almost certainly the
 case that mhansen's comment will lead you to happiness.  The Python spkg
 seems to be particularly vulnerable to this problem, in other reports as
 well as my own experience.  By the way, there are more detailed
 instructions about how to rebase the Sage dlls (not just the system ones)
 at the [wiki:CygwinPort wiki page about this].
