 set `SIGNAL_HANDLING_THREAD` to false when calling `cl_boot`, you may be
 able to force ECL to not set up a separate signal handling thread, even if
 threading is enabled. I cannot test this here because I do not have a
 thread-enabled ECL, but in your setup it may be easy to try out.
