For the record, I have a
[http://sage.math.washington.edu/home/leif/Sage/spkgs/matplotlib-1.0.1.p1.spkg
(preliminary) MPL 1.0.1.p1 spkg] fixing this, which Johan already tested.

I'll open a follow-up for that one at some uncertain point in the
future... (Remind me of that in case nothing should happen for a while.)
