 I totally understand what you mean but I disagree.  It's always hard when
 one has to make a choice of bugs: this ticket certainly fixes bugs but
 also introduces a serious bug.  If it is a memory leak, this will
 certainly affect people using Sage, so I don't think we can ignore this so
 easily.

 The increased memory usage is not small either: given that Sage needs
 about 0.8GB by itself, the extra memory allocated for that test jumped
 from 0.4GB to 2.2GB.
