No. Please don't reopen #11498. It is a massive cleanup of the code.
@jhpalmieri there is a way. You can simply do `html('$f(x) = x^2$')`. But
it doesn't retain the blue color and it won't work with the `viewer=pdf`
setting. So, modifying `view()` and thereabouts (maybe `list_function` or
`tuple_function` too) is probably the only way to implement it now, while
still retaining these earlier functionality.
