 otherwise, but experimental makes me nervous.

 As for the example, what's up with `fig_tight`?   I can't find it in
 ''our'' docs.  Does this mean it's an undocumented (for us, not them of
 course) mpl thingie?  How likely is it that a user would actually use this
 (now)?
