 Ignore the comment about the wrong version of 'patch'. I somehow thought
 the error message was being generated during the patch, but its simply
 that the code does not build, which is hardly surprising, as the operating
 system is not tested properly.

 It would make sense to default to "generic", which according to the
 makefile produces portable code. So it then has some hope of working on
 Android, AIX, HP-UX or any of the numerous other operating systems.
