Comment(by jdemeyer):

 gcc-4.6.2 is certainly the way to go. Sage builds, and there is only one
 doctest failing (with a Segmentation Fault):
 {{{
 $ ./sage -t --long
 devel/sage/sage/rings/padics/padic_ZZ_pX_CR_element.pyx
 sage -t --long "devel/sage/sage/rings/padics/padic_ZZ_pX_CR_element.pyx"
 The doctested process was killed by signal 11
          [5.1 s]

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------
 The following tests failed:

         sage -t --long
 "devel/sage/sage/rings/padics/padic_ZZ_pX_CR_element.pyx" # Killed/crashed
 Total time for all tests: 5.1 seconds
 }}}
