For those listening to this ticket: I have just finished reconfiguring
the build system for eclib to use autotools, including libtool, with
invaluabe help from Volker. I do not yet have a replacement spkg, but
that will follow. And it had better work on more systems than my old
hand-written makefiles, or I have just wasted a whole lot of time!
