This builds successfully (and passes self-tests) for me on various
platforms. I don't think I'm competent to review all of the patches; what
can we do to make some progress on this ticket? (One very minor comment:
in the last version, I would have used "hg rename" to change
`gmp-h.in.diff` to `gmp-h.in.patch`.)
