Comment (by SimonKing):

 On bsd.math, at least when #12876 and its dependencies are added, I find:
 {{{
 sage -t -force_lib "devel/sage/sage/interfaces/gap.py"
 **********************************************************************
 File "/scratch/sking/sage-5.3.rc1/devel/sage/sage/interfaces/gap.py", line
 809:
     sage: gap(2)
 Expected:
     2
 Got:
     <BLANKLINE>
 **********************************************************************
 1 items had failures:
    1 of   4 in __main__.example_21
 ***Test Failed*** 1 failures.
 For whitespace errors, see the file
 /Users/SimonKing/.sage//tmp/gap_70056.py
          [29.6 s]

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------
 The following tests failed:

         sage -t -force_lib "devel/sage/sage/interfaces/gap.py"
 Total time for all tests: 29.7 seconds
 }}}

 I'd need to repeat without all the other patches, though, to be on the
 safe side.
