It will also make a difference depending if you are using the dev sds: rails.dev.concord.org/sds or production sds: saildataservice.concord.org
The dev sds has a fix I made which removes that annoying "launch with webstart" popup, and it just launches. I'm not sure when that fix will be released to the production sds. The fix involves tweaking the content-disposition header sent down by the SDS.
