Rama means the Joy that comes of Love - Swami
Rama learnt from Vasishta the method of conquering desire and he
demonstrated by his equanimity that he could go into long exile, with as much
exaltation as he could go towards the throne for his coronation. 'Rama' means
the Joy that comes of Love. He loved bird and beast, demon and sage, to prove
to the world that God saves those who love His children.
- From Bhagawan's Akanda Bhajan Discourse in 1974.

The Divine Padhukas
In Chitrakuta, along with Bharatha, sage Vasishta too requested Rama to return
to Ayodhya. However, Rama did not yield to Bharatha's entreaties and, acting
according to Vasishta's directions, offered His sandals to Bharatha, and asked
Bharatha to perform the coronation for His Sandals (Padhugas).
You must recognize the inner significance of this episode. People generally
regard the sandals as objects to be despised. However, Rama taught a different
lesson about them. Rama treated the kingdom and sandals on par - "I don't want
a crown. Enthrone my sandals!"
Maya (Sita) hides God (Rama) from vision of JIVA (Lakshmana)
At one time Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita were moving in the forest. It was thick
and there was no wide road. Therefore, they could follow only a narrow path.
Rama was leading them, followed by Sita and Lakshmana. We represent Rama to
God, Sita to Maya (Illusion) and Lakshmana to Jiva. If Lakshmana or Jiva wants
to look at Rama, he has only two ways. One is for Sita, to move away from the
middle and make a little space for Lakshmana to have Darshan. The second way
is, if Sita insists on staying where she was, Lakshmana was himself to move a
little aside. To get Sita move away, he may have to push her away or pray to
Sita in all humility and ask her to give him a chance. The first would offend
Rama. The second method, Sita, in all her graciousness and kind heart will step
aside. Hence, if you get angry with Maya or push it aside, you will not succeed
in having Darshan. The only way is to recognize Maya and pray in all humility
asking for an opportunity to see God.
