Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
OM Trayambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam Urvarukamiva Bandhanam Mrityor Mukshiya Mamritat The homam is performed with the help of a learned priest or it is performed in the form of archana or as a ritual in Shiva temples. The real meaning of the mantra is to ask to be liberated from all the relations and bonds so that the death is as smooth as possible. See below tryambakam: tre = three ; ambakam = eye [Shiva = consciousness, inner essence] yajamahe: yaj = revere, adore ; mahi = great, a lot sugandhim: su = good ; gandhim = odour, smell [Good feeling] pushti-vardhanam: pushti = well-nourished ; vardha = increasing, augmenting [well-prosperity: 'Pushti' ga bhojanam, Vardhillali] ============== Something like "Reverence/greater understanding [inner sense/consciousness+visual] increases prosperity and good feeling" ============== urvaarukamiva: urv = to kill or hurt ; aaruka = hurting, injuring ; iva = just like, in this manner [urvaaruka = cucumber (too!)] bandhanan: bandha = bondage, relation mrityor: mrityu = Death mukshiya: mukshi = liberation, freeing mamritat: mah = a lot, abundant; amrita = immortal ============== Something like "liberates and immortalizes (?) from sufferring relation to death" or "kills the related suffering and liberates to immortality"
