Story behind the photo : 183 - Suvarna Varnam – Golden colour.

Swami’s 82nd Birthday, was celebrated as “Sahasra chandra Darshanam Day – The
day when the 1000 full moons had been seen, by the Avatar.

There were grand programmes scheduled for the celebration of “Sahasra Chandra
Darshanam” for Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. This was coinciding with the 82nd
Birthday of Divinity. The extended Shanthi Vedika in Hill view stadium had been
converted into huge Yaga Shala. Swami had directed to train 1000 students into
chanting of Rudram & Chamakam. Likewise many other programmes were planned
meticulously.

Devotees wished that on Poornahuthi day, Swami should enter Hill view stadium
riding on the Golden Chariot. There was one problem. The chariot had been kept
unused for many years. First it should be made road worthy. This needed total
overhauling and renewal. The under carriage, and the wheels etc had to be
redone. The Padhuga Trust was entrusted with this job. I made several trips to
Bangalore to procure the needed spare parts, as prescribed by the automobiles
engineers. The over hauling work was done in late night hours. When the Chariot
was ready, it was decided to take trial run towards the Hill view Stadium. In
fact this trial was taken on two different days. The Trial run from Sai
Kulwant Hall will commence after 11.30 night, After all people had gone to
sleep, and would return back well after midnight.

There was throne fixed on the Chariot. It was decided that to suit convenience
of Bhagavan, the permanent throne be taken out and a slot made to insert the
wheeled chair of Bhagavan, which is detachable from the car. There was a spare
chair available which was also in red colour. It was thought that the fabric of
this chair also be made in Gold colour. Various fabric samples were brought
from Mumbai. Sri Chakravarthi made the choice, and with another consignment of
golden fabric from Mumbai, this task was also fulfilled.

On the day when Swami showed up for Poornahuthi, there was a surprise for all
of us. Swami was wearing a Robe which was also in Golden colour. When Swami was
arriving to the Yaga shala, riding the chariot, the sun rays reflected on the
chariot and also on Swami, and it was a sight to see.

I was most fortunate to get associated in this Divine task, without any sleep
for many days. But, in the end, I was also rewarded. I was chosen to be one
among few devotees to carry the Divine Umbrellas in the procession, ahead of
the Chariot, on which Bhagavan was travelling. A unique Divine Grace on the day
of Sahasra Chandra Darshanam Day.

Ever in Sai Seva – Mumbai Srinivasan.
