“Women are the mothers of the coming generation; they are the teachers of that
generation, during the first five years of life. Only dedicated mothers can
offer to the nation children who will strive for a great future for the
country. Truth, sacrifice and peace are predominant qualities in women. Women
are concerned about the purity and welfare of the community. ? While the
father's love was related to mundane desires, the mother's love was related to
spiritual concerns. It is such broad-minded mothers who are needed today. Good
mothers are more essential than good wives. A good wife is of value only to her
husband. A good mother is a national asset.” - BHAGAWAN SRI SATHYA SAI BABA

MY STUDENTS SHOULD NOT MISTAKE HOLIDAYS TO BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE BACK INTO
WORLDY STYLES.

  <http://www.ssso.net/pnews-2016/Swami-Students.jpg>

Below is an account given by a devotee who was present in the interview room
when Bhagwan was conversing with the parents & child who was then studying in
Bhagwan's Primary school. Bhagwan conveyed a very deep message outlining the
real purpose of His educational institutions and what He expects from the
parents and the young students.

Swami blessed me and my wife with an interview in June 1992. Apart from us He
had called another couple and their son who was then a student in Bhagwan's
Primary school.

Swamy welcomed us with a Loving smile and then abruptly turned towards the
other couple and in a very stern voice asked,
Swamy - Why do you want your son to study in our school ?
Father (of the boy) - Swamy so that our son becomes an ideal man of character
in the society.
Swamy - Should it be only our responsibility to make the boy an ideal man or
should you two also work towards this matter?
Father - Swamy we are very vigilant and making constant efforts towards it.
Swamy - What do you think about the holidays they get from the school for two
months ? Are they getting the same atmosphere and learning as they are getting
here in the school ?
Mother (of the boy) - But, Swamy holidays are meant for enjoyment and
relaxation.
Swamy - You think they are coming out from a prison ?
Mother - No Swamy. I meant it is a break.
Swamy - Break from what ?
Mother - Regular classes
Swamy - Our educational institutions are not merely school and a university but
a Gurukul in its real essence. In earlier times the child used to be sent to a
Gurukul when turned 5 yrs of age and used to return home only after turning
into a youth. Due to modern day rules we have to grant two months holidays but
that doesn't mean that the child is to be given a break from the learning and
activity of the school. It is not a break but, just a change of place due to
extreme hot temperature here. It is not just our duty to imbibe samskaras into
the child but your duty too.
Father - Swamy we were very careful in Keeping our son within the Limits.
Swamy - What Limits? You think by merely doing morning prayers or Bramharpanam
you had kept the child under control. Do I care for these rituals? My purpose
of establishing these institutions is to make them good boys/girls.
Your servant was sick isn't it?
Father - Yes, Swamy
Swamy - How did you look after him?
( Now there was a pin drop silence for nearly a minute in the room and the
couple seemed very nervous at Swamy's question )
Swamy - Your servant got high fever and you sent him ( pointing at the lady )
to your mother's home in chennai so that you all can go to Mauritius for
holidays. Isn't it ?
Father - Yes, Swamy
Swamy - Is this the learning you are giving to your child? For your pleasure
and enjoyment leave or send the sick and distressed person away. You think
servant to be an outsider. No, he is the very part of your family and above
that a human being who has been serving you to make your lives comfortable.
We keep on telling the students here to learn the principles of Sacrifice,
Love, servitude, compassion, honesty. But, what they learn going home is
selfishness, self-centredness, self enjoyment. It is due to such parents that
our students learn nothing even after studying from Primary till matric (12th
standard).
What Human values will they learn from such actions?
(Swamy then turned towards the mother of the boy)
Swamy - You think your son was in a prison and got released for two months. I
can understand the heart of a mother and the Love you have for your son. You
want to feed him well with all his favourite dishes. Get him best toys and
games. Take him to different places for holidays. But, let me make it clear to
you again if this your only goal then take your child away and put him in a
school nearby your home. Let it be a day school. Fulfil all your motherly
desires.
Mother - We are very sorry Swamy. Please, forgive us.
Swamy ( more stern voice ) - I don't want such students whose parents think it
is only our duty to mould there future and train there minds towards human
values.
MY STUDENTS SHOULD NOT MISTAKE HOLIDAYS TO BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE BACK INTO
WORLDY STYLES.
Such students shall learn nothing from here. When a small mud pot filled with
water is kept out of a big water pot then it shall soon dry up. The children
should be given same atmosphere and treatment as they get here in the school. I
am not saying don't go out or enjoy games or relish dishes but, at the same
time it should not be in a contrast to here. Little bit in moderation is
acceptable provided the values I mentioned before are rigorously followed. They
must first learn to serve and not rule. You should stop pampering the child and
make them feel special. Behave in the same routine as you always do. When you
take them to big destinations do you realise what kind of disparity you create
in their minds with other students here whose parents cannot afford such
expensive travels. They can travel and enjoy when they turn youths and leave
the institution after completion of there studies. But, till the time they are
here you must make them learn to sacrifice. When you admit your child here,
know that they are now My Property. In Fact I am sending them to your homes for
sometime. Don't spoil all that we have settled in their minds. You are all
accountable to Swamy.
If you think you must pamper and give them a special treatment with expensive
travels, gifts etc then better take them away from here. Don't waste Our time
and money.
Parents - Swamy we are very sorry. Please forgive us. It won't be repeated. Our
son will have his own vacation when he finishes his graduation. We shall not
give him any special treatment or make him feel he has come home but, instead
he is only visiting us leaving from his real home that is his school for two
months. We will even apologise to our servant.
Swamy - Yes, you must exercise complete control on your emotions for the
betterment of your child.
Always strive to make Swamy Happy & all shall be good for you.
( Bhagwan then took us inside the inner room & gave us a private audience for
20 minutes. He brought us out in da same room and gave everyone Padnamaskar and
vibhuti packets and sent us out with His Love and blessings. But, to my
understanding He also sent us out with the thought that how seriously He takes
His educational institutions and it's students )

The Story of Jack & Jill - Swami's Beloved Pets

  <http://www.ssso.net/pnews-2016/JacknJill.jpg>

Jack and Jill were the earliest recipients of Baba’s grace. It was noted that
they actually fasted on every Thursday and desisted from eating flesh on all
days! The Thursday fast of these canine devotees put many a human Bhakta to
shame. They were inseparable companions of Baba and used to sleep, Jack at the
head of the bed and Jill at His Feet. Who can say what dreams they had inside
their half-shut eyes, while Baba stroked the...ir silken fur with His motherly
affection?

Let's hear this love story from the Divine Master Himself (Discourse delivered
on 2002 Avatar Declaration Day) :

"When I came to Puttaparthi, Karanam Subbamma gave one acre of land near
Sathyabhama temple where a small house was built. There I used to live. The
same Ramesh and Suresh (Swami's school friends) were born again as two puppies
and came to Me. The sister of Mysore Maharaja named them Jack and Jill. They
were always with Me.

"One day the Maharani of Mysore came to have My darshan. She was a great
devotee and a highly orthodox woman. She would perform puja with flowers
everyday. Since there were no proper roads to Puttaparthi, she alighted from
the car at Karnatakanagepalli and walked the rest of the distance to the old
mandir (temple). There used to be a small shed where the Pedda Venkama Raju
Kalyana Mandapam stands now. The Maharani decided to rest for the night in the
mandir. The driver had his dinner and was returning to Karnatakanagepalli where
the car was parked. I told Jack to accompany the driver and show him the way.
Jack walked in the front, and the driver followed. Jack slept under the car.

"Next morning, the driver started the car not knowing that Jack was sleeping
under it. The wheel of the car ran over the back of Jack and its backbone
broke. Jack dragged itself across the river, wailing all the while. A washerman
named Subbanna used to take care of the old mandir day and night. He was very
loyal and considered Swami as his very life. He came running to Me and said,
"Swami, Jack might have met with an accident. It is coming wailing in pain. I
came out at once. Jack came close to Me, wailing loudly, fell at My feet, and
breathed its last. It was buried behind the old mandir and a Brindavanam was
erected. As per My instructions, it was built by the side, not at the centre. I
said there should be a place for another samadhi.

"Since Jack had passed away, Jill stopped eating food and died after a few
days. It was also buried by the side of Jack's samadhi. In this manner, Ramesh
and Suresh did penance to be with Me. Even after their death, they took birth
as dogs to be with Me."

The Story of the Weeping City

Chinna Katha - A Small Story Narrated by Baba

  <http://www.ssso.net/pnews-2016/Sai-wcity.jpg>

You must take every step in Sadhana or in Samsara, only after deep deliberation
and satisfying yourself that it will be for your good. Otherwise, it will be
like the story of the weeping city.

One day, a close female attendant of the Queen came to the Palace weeping in
great sorrow, and so the Queen began to shed tears. Seeing the Queen in tears,
the entire zenana wept and the weeping spread to the male attendants too. The
King, finding the queen inconsolably sad, also wept profusely in sympathy, and
the sight made the entire city weep loud and non-stop.

At last, one sensible fellow set in motion an inquiry, which passed through
person after person until the Queen herself was accosted. She said that her
attendant was in sore grief. When she, a washerwoman by caste, was
interrogated, she confessed that it was all due to the sudden demise of her
favourite donkey! When the news spread the weeping ceased and there was
widespread laughter and shame. Reason out, discriminate. Do not rush to
conclusions or be led away by mere hearsay.

What is the barometer of a true divine life? Bhagawan explains to us in crystal
clear terms to us today.

  <http://www.ssso.net/pnews-2016/SI300416.jpg>

Righteousness (Dharma) is the basis for the entire Universe. A true human being
is one who practices the principle of dharma. Burning is the dharma of fire.
Many often use the word dharma without knowing its true nature and majesty.
Coolness is the dharma of ice. Fire is no fire without burning. Ice is n...o
ice without coolness. Similarly, the dharma of a human lies in performing
actions with the body and following the commands of the heart. Every act
performed with thought, word, and deed in harmony is a dharmic act! A dharmic
life is a divine life! This dharma of the heart is supreme and verily the
dharma of life. You must achieve unity in thought, word, and deed at all costs.

- Summer Showers Ch2, May 20, 1996.

Fullness in life is marked by the harmony of thought, word and deed.-BABA.

  <http://www.ssso.net/pnews-2016/G300416.jpg>

One of the messages Yajnavalkya is, “There is no gift higher than the gift of
food and no God higher than the parents. There is no truth higher than japa and
thapas (reciting the holy Name and doing penance). There is no dharma higher
than compassion and no gain higher than the company of the good. There is no
enemy more dangerous than anger and no disease more serious than indebtedness.
There is no death more horrible than i...ll-fame and no wealth more valuable
than fame. There is no ornament more beautiful than smaran (remembering God
through chanting His names).”

Thus Yajnavalkya specially emphasised in his teachings to his disciples, the
extreme importance of service to parents and guru, as well as anna dana (free
distribution of food).

VALUE OF VEGETARIANISM - Part 01

  <http://www.ssso.net/pnews-2016/vegetarianism.jpg>

To include animal food in one's menu or not... used to be one of several
classic debates that seem to have no end or solution in sight. Either of the
‘warring’ camps swore by the benefits of their stand. Today, from economics to
environment, from science to spirituality, compelling evidence is tilting this
debate in favour of one particular choice.

Now, even as your minds are running furiously to choose your side in this ‘war’
along with the t...housand reasons for the same, let us define the scope - the
operational boundaries - of this article so that things are understood and
assimilated within a reasonable perspective.

Clearly, this article is meant for those who consider ‘spiritual growth’ a life
priority. However, it is suitable for the rest as well because a large part of
it is based on scientific data and observations. Naturally, it derives heavily
from the teachings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and therefore hopes to serve
as a holy grail for His devotees.

Man's quest must be for God rather than for food

  <http://www.ssso.net/pnews-2016/quest.jpg>

In defining a good man, Vemana said that the individual who suffers if he is
hungry, who harbours evil, who is burning with anger, and who indulges in
promoting intrigue may be said to be a bad man. All others are good people.
That man should spend his energy to relieve his hunger has been looked upon
with ridicule by the poet Vemana.

He draws attention to the fact that even animals and birds do not spend so much
effort and ti...me to get relief when they are hungry.

When that is so, how is it that man, who is superior to the animals and birds,
spends so much time and effort in search of his food.

Who provides the food for the birds in the forest? Who feeds the animals in the
forest when they are hungry? Who gives water to the trees that thrive in the
forest? God, who finds the food for the frog that is trapped between a pair of
large stones, will certainly provide food for the human beings, who are so
close to Him.

Under such circumstances, it is not right that man should hanker after food. On
the other hand, he should go after realisation of truth and develop faith in
God.

Today’s Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam, FRIDAY, APRIL 29, 2016

Why is Sadhana or spiritual practices supremely important? Bhagawan lovingly
reminds us today.

  <http://www.ssso.net/pnews-2016/SI290416.jpg>

A person’s life depends upon three essential things - thoughts, words and
deeds. When When desires arise, one immediately takes it to their mind. For any
thought, mind is the basis. The thought that comes to your mind will be exposed
to the world as a word from your mouth, and once you utter those words, then,
to put it into practice, you take action. When you are able to apply these
three—thought, word, and action along the right path, you earn merit (punya);
but if you apply them along the wrong path, you earn sin. Thus for good and
bad, you need thoughts, words, and deeds. Only when there is harmony between
thoughts, words, and actions; you will be able to recognise your own true
nature. To keep them pure and in harmony, you must undertake some kind of
sadhana (spiritual practice). This is of utmost need today.

- Divine Discourse, Summer Roses on Blue Mountains, 1976, Ch 2.

If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in character. If
there is beauty in character, there will be harmony in the home.-

Yajnavalkya’s forefathers always used to do anna dana (free distribution of
food), so their family got the name Vaajasam. The Veda taught by him was also
called by the alternative names of Sukla Yajur Veda, Vajasas Khanda, and Aditya
Khanda. Yajur Veda has been divided into two. For this reason, although the
Vedas were originally four in number, they have subsequently become five,
namely Rig Veda, Krishna Yajur Veda, Sukla Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, and Atharvana
Veda. Recognising that the Sun appeared before him as Vaaji and taught him the
Vedas because of the free distribution of food by his ancestors, Yajnavalkya
gave primary importance to anna daana in his teaching.

How to control your senses; Bhagawan explains

  <http://www.ssso.net/pnews-2016/control-sense.jpg>

For every human being, control of one's senses is essential. It would be wrong
if we think that this ‘control of senses’ is required for only for the hermits
and ascetics (Jogis and Yogis). This control of senses is essential for every
one who has taken birth with a human body. With the feeling that the sensory
organs belong to me, we should not let them go uncontrolled. Although the car
is purchased by you, registered in your nam...e and being driven by you, you
need to put the brakes when you anticipate danger. If you think, “It’s my car,
why should I put brakes.”, then you are verily inviting danger for yourself!

In this analogy, the “human body” is like a car, the two “eyes” of the human
body are like the two lights of the car. The “stomach” is like the petrol tank
of the car. The “mouth” is like the horn of the car. Our “mind” is the steering
for the car. The four “Purushardhas”-- Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha-- are
like the four tyres of the car. The air in these four tyres is that of “faith”.
Here when we put on the switch which is the “intelligence”-(buddhi) in us, then
the car will start. We will have to compare the “Chitta” with the control of
senses. When we can control the senses, it is then that our “Chitta” is
purified. When the “Chitta” is purified then wisdom dawns.
