2 held for assault on ex-Saligao VP chief NT NETWORK MAPUSA â€" Two brothers Mark Lobo and Valmiki Lobo both residents of Saligao have been arrested by the Calangute police for assaulting former Saligao sarpanch Mr Dayanand Mandrekar. It may be recalled that Mr Mandrekar was brutally assaulted Friday morning at Grande Morod, Saligao by some goons who later threw him in the nearby fields. On seeing him in a bad condition some locals immediately rushed him to the GMC hospital for treatment. Though the involvement of the Lobo brothers was suspected, police on investigation came to know of their involvement in the assault and late last night arrested them. They were later released on bail. It is learnt from the police that Mandrekar had earned the ire of the Lobo brothers as he was backing some tenants from their property.
