Subject : Ding Dong Bell - Sao Joao Revellers in the well ! I live in a Resort North Goa and witnessed the Sao Joao revelry yesterday and the manager encouraging the youngsters by offering them free bottles of alcohol , and some snacks and allowing them to dive/jump inside the swimming pool despite the No Diving signs ,etc I remember in my childhood days in my village of Saligao it was only the wells that these ' revellers ' used to jump in to celebrate the feast of St.John the Baptist - but nowadays they prefer the swimming pools that are located inside resorts and hotels . I am not surprised to read about the drowning death that occured in a swimming pool in Arpora yesterday - these revellers once they are intoxicated dont even take precautions and hotel managements are to blame because they turn a Nelsons eye to all this tamasha Interestingly a local television channel broadcasted reports about Sao Joao celebrations and a young lady spoke saying that this is a feast of Christians and we goans drink wines like cashew fenny and urraq etc to celebrate the ' Pregnancy' of Elisabeth -- she went ahead to explain about the visit of Mother Mary to her cousin Elisabeth and the connection with this feast which even made the newsreader laugh - I think she like many of our Goans are misinformed and the church must be bold and declare that such festivities have nothing to do with Christianity or religion but are pagan in origin like bashing of the Jews etc Thank you Cyril P.D'Souza #401 KHH Phase 11 On Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 8:47 PM, My Times My Voice < [EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Dear "cyril d'souza" , > > We thank you for writing to The Times of India.
