I think Ashley is upset that the seriousness of the situation doesn't get adequately translated over news-reports sent via the local newspapers, and then re-circulated via Saligao-Net.
Agreed, it's tough to understand what these issues connotes sometimes, even for me (sometimes out of touch with village issues), let alone someone in another continent.
