Saligao's Mater Dei Institution [http://materdei-school.com/]
completed a hundred years today. It is the second-oldest
English-language school in Goa, and an institution which has a number
of prominent names as alumni.

On the occasion, the eve of the school centenary was marked with a
Mass at the Mae de Deus Church at Saligao. Parents, alumni and
well-wishers joined the occasion, followed by a march from the church
through the village which has been its home, back to the school. The
march was accompanied by a band, and students carried lanterns on a
monsoon day when the rains took a break.

On Sunday, July 12, 2009, the school will see students and parents
assemble, followed by a welcome address, invocation dance, and
inter-faith service, and a cultural programme, according to principal
Cleta H. Lobo.
