You will have found out the information that follows by now from GerryLopes,
who lives in Saligao and is the son of Thomas Aquinas Lopes who lived in
Zanzibar East Africa. Aquin Lopes, as he was known, was a friend of my father
Dr Eugene Menezes, grandfather of Derick Menezes of Piqeuno Morrodd Saligao. I
also have a photograph of Aquin  Lopes in a group photo when the Zanzibar Goan
Cricket team won the trophy which was a shield. I will have to ask Gerry for
his permission to send you the scanned photo. The quality is not as good as the
original photo which was  in an album in the possession of my nephew Derek. I
had borrowed the album many years ago and a friend a photographer actually
photographed the original photos, long before scanners were so easily
available. Aquin Lopes as Gerry will confirm is seated in the front row -
second from the left in the striped jacket. First on the left is my father.
Next to Aquin Lopes is FXDeSouza,,Julius
Fernandes(holding the shield),I can only remember the name of the tall
gentleman - standing third from the right in the back row - Moniz. As you will
see the date  is 1933 and I do not think that any of the players will still be
alive as they will have to be well over 100 by now! Their families are mostly
abroad I think. Please forward this to Mandy in case I cannot do it.

Hello Mandy,
The names you have mentioned seem familiar, and if I am not mistaken, they
could belong /relate to the Lopes family from
Cottula Vaddo, Saligao., i.e. presently house being occupied by Gerry Lopes and
his wife Yolanda Lopes (Gama Pinto).
I know that Gerry had family abroad (he himself was in Africa, someplace), and
had another brother abroad, who visited Saligao
ancestral house somewhere in the early nineties..! He has sisters whose names
are Gloria and Amanda(?)
Do any of the names mentioned above sound familiar? I'll try to find out
details and let you know...soon.
All the best in your search for your 'roots'.

Hi there,
My name is Mandy. I have just discovered this group on line which is exciting
as I am trying to discover more about my Goan family heritage. My father was
Ives Lopes (desceased Nov.2004); His father was Thomas Aquinas Lopes married to
Mary Graziella Rodrigues. I read an amazing book about three years ago called
"Gaurdian of the Dawn" which spoke of the Inquisition history of the Portugese
in Goa, this compbined of course with my father's passing sparked my interest
to know more about my family. Could you tell me how to find out more?
Thankyou for taking the time to read my email,
Mandy
