The bard once wrote:

"Do not as some pastors do, himself threads the path of dalliance while
pointing to the straight and narrow to others"

Perhaps, if we all examined our conscience and followed the path of
righteousness we would be living in paradise. However, the reality is different.

My last visit to Goa left me with the impression that deceit and corruption has
crept into many of the institutions which we regarded in my youth (1940's) as
being honest and upright. But then who will cast the first stone?

Perhaps a new age is yet to dawn and once again we hope the youth with their
compassion and idealness will prevail. Sadly, the old are beyond redemption
because it has entered the body politic.

We hope that we can ask for those who believe they are clean and chase will
stand up to be counted.

the counselling work we are about to begin is great but it's the second

It is happening, maybe not as much as we would like it to .But children are
beginning to trust counsellors and seek help. There is an increasing awareness
that abuse should not be tolerated or kept in the closet.Talks and awareness
programmes in schools help and they are told whom to approach

No priest is above the state law, he is subjected to the same law of the
land where he lives just like all other residents, unless he is there as a
diplomat with immunity.

The civil authorities can charge and penalise him for any civil/criminal
activity, from a speeding/parking ticket right upto murder.

      a..
Unlike other members of society who can be tried and found/not found
guilty, no criminal or civil charges can be pressed against priests. I'm not
aware of any recent changes to this. This is what is making everyone so mad.
I am all for the vote that priests should be tried just like everyone else.
What makes them so different from the rest of us that they should be considered
above the law?! And, of course, if found guilty, should be subjected to the
same punishments that anyone else (who does not have the privilege of being a
priest) would be subjected to.
