Rico - I stand corrected! I used "some" as am hesitant to presume that "all" or "everyone" would....... Yeh! have been reading the various points of view, from other sources including Goanet, also reading the rantings & ravings of some (for & against & fence line) so trying to keep abreast of things with regard to the current topic "MoI" in Goa & trying to get my facts right. Thanks for the tip - Vavreddeancho Ixtt - & for the relevant info of the meaning etc. ....will definitely check out this website hereafter as grandma used to say that the best way to learn a language was to get others to speak the same with you & read the rest. She might have been right with regard to Konkani but was wrong when it came to learning Hindi by yours truly....I read pages & pages (Devanagari script) but till today cant speak Hindi, (no offence to Sr. Hilary nor Mr. Purso who tutored me) ...however I can understand quite a lot of Hindi now (the kitchen one of course, not the classic) .....because of the many Hindi serials (not movies - have to sit too long) I have been following over the last 9 years ...phew! Ciao & thanks again Rico. Annette

Everyone would like to learn more of a language, specially one which is our context. Without doubt, Konkani is the spoken lingo of Goa. (There are attempts to build it into the written language too, though there is disagreement over how this should be done, what would be the best script, whether compulsion or voluntary approaches would work, etc, etc. Till date, as far as reading goes, English and Marathi are preferred, and this has been the situation since the 1960s at least.) The paper is the Vavreddeancho Ixtt (The Worker's Friend, its name probably reflects times of the Red scare, when the Church thought it would lose the working class to the Left).
