Oh ok! I think I can now place Schubert Vaz family since he mentioned his
grandmother - Donvaddo I presume - the late Mr.Dominic & Mrs.Betty Vaz eh? But
then most of us in Donvaddo are Vaz/Vas or were Vaz/Vas. I remember one
daughter - I think Zinnie was her name! & if I remember right, you Schubert are
related to Allwyn & family & as the saying goes, everyone in Saligao is related
- then the proof of that is I am related to Allwyn too.

& yeh the "Gurgulette" is still being used in my house in Donvaddo. & we drank
the water at the Salmona Spring & Donvaddo Spring (I think the Westend has come
up by that particular Spring) straight - as we believed it had medicinal
properties. Now of course, if you dare to drink, you will be ingesting various
strains of E-Coli & all the rest of the paraphernelia. & we still carry our
own shopping bags, cloth, gunnybag etc. to Mapusa besides a few plastic bags to
place the fish in so as not to dirty the cloth bags, & these plastic bags are
washed dried & kept for next trip to the fish market.....some of us havent
changed in certain spheres whilst struggling to catch up with the rest of the
modern techno world. (as in this mail of yours which I have copied & pasted
since it seems to have got entangled with some other personal mails of mine
which I dont want the world & its mother to read when I "reply" - huh!)

Anyway Schubert, you are right about "catching them young in school"! But your
suggestion about forwarding the "suggestions" to the "Education Minister" to be
implemented.....well you & those working towards that goal would have their
work cut out for them, considering ...... but then, better to die trying than
not at all eh? So we have to leave that gargantuan task to those you
mentioned in the mail - the doers, the makers & all Saiganvkars who are in a
position to work from the village itself. including M&M (Muriel & Mario to
you, Schubert). Umm! at one point in time, a long time ago, Dr. Willie did
start & dabbled vis-a-vis the garbage issue ...perhaps he would be pleased to
do so again, then Saliganvkars would have more backing, wouldnt they? I for one
am quite ready to sign the letter/petition to be sent to the Education Minister
and/or the Garbage Minister....is there one???

Ah yes! right again Schubert!.....Ice Age, Stone Age, Plastic (Toxic) Age ...
did we miss any Age then?... but I think we will be heading towards perhaps Mad
& Rage Age?? Thought I read somewhere that toxins in our blood could lead to
rage & madness ...... but then I am no scientist - perhaps Dr. Dilip, Dr.
Suresh, Dr. Queenie, Dr. Donald (havent heard about the Sequeiras since long
except that they are well placed in the States, so perhaps they are PhD by now
- Marbrouk to the Sequeiras if so!) and others could enlighten us? Now that
would come under "putting our hands and heads together" ...wouldnt it? & then
continuing with the job in hand...garbage job.....a hell of a job and a stink
of a job!

All the best to one & all!

Subject: Fwd: [SALIGAONET] Educate and eradicate !!

I was shocked to hear about the pollution upon our Saligao hill especially near
our dear old Salmona spring . Our visit to our home in Saligao would never be
complete without a visit to the fountain( Salmona spring) .We also used to
carry the water back home in our little ‘ Gurgulette ‘ as my grandmother would
call it as it was supposed to contain medicinal properties (Does this theory
still hold good considering the garbage seepage into the underground water
table ? ). I still remember my grandma the late Mrs Betty – would never go
shopping without her Goa shopping bag in hand ( no plastic bags then )
Hats off to anti – garbage guys like M&M ( sorry pal didn’t get your name )
, Yvonne ,Fred, Alwin ( for his excellent suggestion which I think should be
forwarded to Education Minister Babush Monseratte to be implemented !) Civic
sense can only be inculcated in the people by educating them against the evils
of garbage and best time is catching them young in school !
First we had the Ice Age , then came the Stone Age etc and this presently can
be rightly called as the Plastic ( Toxic ) Age.
Let the inputs help you guys put your hands and heads together to do something
for our beautiful Saligao
Schubert Vaz
