I believe the correct spelling ought to either be Sonarbatt or Sonarbat.
For reference I have the "A. Furtadacho: Konkani-English Pocket Dictionary"
from Asian Educational Services (first pub. 1930).
The only translation in any language for the word "bhat" or bhatt is Hindu
priest. Which in Konkani is actually "bott".Whereas "bat", batt, battcar,
battcan are words related to owner, rice, property, landlord etc.
I do realize that there doesn't exist any script which can adequately express
our "bardeshkari" dialect pronunciation. Even so the romanicized reference to
Hindu priests with the "bhatt" ending is best avoided in my opinion.
Discuss away after Google'ing bhat and bhatt.

(Disclaimer: I am no expert on or in Amchi Bas.)
