Panchayat Budget 2013-14
Dear Saligaokaram,
The attached budget with a few amendments, was passed yesterday by a
poorly attended and passably debating Gram Sabha. These well
formatted, printed copies of the budget were distributed for members
to scrutinise and question. But as previous Gram Sabhas have pointed
out, these copies should be available /in advance/ so that the budget
can be studied before the meeting for members to then make informed
amendments.
Can we do this for next year?
Since we have an open, transparent, non-corrupt Panchayat body - so
far! - with an accountable Sarpanch who walks his talk, *can we also
have the minutes of every meeting of the elected Panchayat members? *
Just like the attached copy of the budget, a printed and signed copy
of the minutes can be put in the public domain for better
participation in grassroots democracy.
We do not mind doing this initially. Later on, someone more IT savvy
can design a simple blog that chronicles all official work of the
Panchayat. This would really be grassroots e-governance at its
transparent best.
What say you, our popular and progressive Sarpanch Eknath?
If this does not happen with you and your vision of every villager
participating in the democratic process guaranteed by the Panchayati
Raj Act, then we cannot see it happening with anyone else :-(
