many thanks, Juhi ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Mini Chandran <[email protected]> Date: Mon, Sep 9, 2013 at 9:04 AM Subject: Details of a neutering camp for Dogs at SwaSwara from 30th Sep noon - 5th October evening. To: [email protected] ** ** Namaskara Juhi, Am taking the liberty of fwd you the details of a Free neutering camp for dogs at SwaSwara. Just in case you know any vets who would be interested in taking part in this please send on the details to them or alternately send their details to us and we will contact them. An ideal opportunity for Vets who would like to be trained in spaying female dogs by a well experienced vetinary surgeon who works with MAYHEW INTERNATIONAL, UK. This is also one of the main thrusts behind this program as we find that most of our vets here are not really trained to handle the spaying of female dogs properly. Dr. Ursula is looking forward to train local vets for this and we are happy to accommodate a few of them on board the team to assist her do the surgeries - we are targeting 60 dogs for this program. Note their services would have to be Free of cost so they will need to come in as volunteers. This is also because we are not getting any funding to run this program, however we will of course arrange for their accommodation & meals which will be at the Namaste café on OM beach. We are already hosting Dr.Ursula x 3 assistants at SwaSwara besides funding this program to the larger extent, so we are pretty stretched for funds and therefore will find it difficult to offer any more accommodation inside the resort. BUT If the concerned vets are senior people in the industry and have to be feted& it is worth our while then yes we will consider hosting them at SwaSwara but this would be open to a max of 2 vets sharing one villa. We are hoping we can find like minded people to join us to make this program a success as going forward we are looking at making this a yearly outreach activity. Well here’s hoping for some positive response from Goa… we will need confirmation latest by 15th Sep. Below are the details of the program. Warm regards, Mini Chandran**** *THE PROGRAM * The Donibhail, OM beach hoteliers association along with ‘Mayhew International’, UK is launching a 6 day Dog neutering camp at SwaSwara, the aim being to sterilize at least 60 dogs in and around Gokarna town & the surrounding beaches. This project is being undertaken to reduce & keep in check the menace of the large and growing stray dog population in town as well as on the beaches. As an outreach activity this program aims at keeping the tourism area, temples and all the beaches safe zones for all concerned and we request all of you to support us in making this program a success. **** *Mission rabies***** ‘Mission rabies’ is a campaign started by worldwide veterinary services (WVS) an NGO in association who along with ‘Dogs trust’ a UK based organization has taken up a challenging project aiming to vaccinate & sterilize 50000 dogs in India, as unfortunately India is the epicenter for rabies in Asia. Study reveals that in India every 2 seconds a person is bitten by a dog and that around 24 people a day suffer an excruciating death from rabies - over half of which are sadly children. We at SwaSwara have identified that Gokarna faces this same problem too –over the last few years gokarna has seen significant increase in dog population, thanks to piling up of garbage. Every tourist coming to enjoy the beach or visit temple has a 90% chance of getting bitten by a stray dog. This is a reality & fact that cannot be ignored or neglected. Taking these facts into consideration the Om beach association and SwaSwara took the decision to support ‘Mission rabies’ and with this in view have roped Ms. Ursula Goetze, a senior vet working with ‘Mayhew International ‘ to also vaccinate the dogs she will be sterilizing over the course of this 6 day program. All the people of Gokarna are welcome to participate and get involved in this cause which will benefit each one of us living here. In this context those of you who have pet dogs and wish to get them sterilized & vaccinated are invited to bring in their dogs to the SwaSwara neutering camp site. Pet owners who wish to avail of this opportunity will need to register their names with SwaSwara at the earliest and please note there will be a nominal registration fee of Rs.100 /per dog. After this neutering camp is completed we will be running a follow through program after 3 months where all the dogs who have undergone the sterilization can be brought in for a checkup by the local vets.**** *Date:* 30th September noon to 05th October evening**** *Venue:* SwaSwara beach side. Entry from the NAMASTE café side.**** *Time:* On 30th Sep – 12 noon onwards – 5pm & on all the other days from 0900 am to 4 pm**** *ALL ANIMAL LOVERS ARE WELCOME***** **** **** -- -- Saligao-Net is at http://groups.google.com/group/saligao-net To post to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe email [email protected] --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Saligao-Net" group.
