This vast expanse of land in Saligao is flat. So how will they make it a landfill? By digging it deep enough to take a minimum of 15 tonnes per day for 10 years (govt. figures, not ours), which is the life of the landfill. That is exactly right: they will excavate a massive, 20,000 sq. mts wide, hole into our hill that contains laterite aquifers to create an artificial landfill! And no matter how well the plastic lining of the landfill is done, it always leaks after a while...deep into the heart of our spongy hill and from there, straight into our springs and wells.
