Correction on this mail - There are 2 laborours working - both from
jharkhand. One guys name is Francis, and the other balakrishnan. I think
it was bala who was beaten up.

Shameful incidents surround saligao still :-(
Yesterday, at the comunidade meeting, I was told that there was an
incident involving the laborer employed by the clean saligao Team.
The Laborer was going about doing his "thankless" job of Picking up
plastic on saturday, when he was accosted by two youth from the
village ( I failed to get their names). these two youth gave him a
trashing, let out the air from his cycle tyres, and even threw away
the valves from the tyres. Eknath was aparantly called to defuse the
situation.
Today morning, My dad saw this laborer arguing with an elderly
gentleman (who was one of the boys father - aparantly a guy named
balu? not sure). My dad stopped to transalate from konkani to hindi,
as the conversation was going nowhere! wherein the fellow threaten the
guy not to pass by and enter his property again as things were getting
stolen.
It must benoted, that the laborer working for clean saligao, is
dressed in bright orange reflective colors, and is instantly
noticeable. I cannot understand why this opposition.
he is doing a fantastic job and works in the heat of the day. I have
stopped to give him a glass of water to quench his thirst. have had a
conversation with this guy and I can confirm that he is a decent man
just earning his daily bread. He needs to be encouraged instead of
being shunned like these 2 youth.
Next time you see him around - please stop and have a kind word with
him!, Offer him a cool drink. Strike up a conversation - these people
are Human and not animals
