Is it possible to make the entire Saligao Parra road a non-commercial
zone?There are already a few stalls and eateries and no parking place.This
stretch is used by joggers and there could be an accident one dayif bar and

On7th November 2017, a 15 member delegation from Saligao metJayesh Salgaokar,
the Saligao MLA and Minister for Housing,RDA and Ports, in his Saligao office.
Thedelegation which included the Saligao sarpanch, 3 panchas and theattorney of
the Saligao Communidade, complained about a proposedSaligao Night
Market.Theproblem was discussed thoroughly with everyone, including the
MLA,Sarpanch, panchas, Communidade Attorney and villagers agreeing withone
voice that Saligao does not need a night market. In fact,everyone listed and
agreed on the serious dangers and numerousproblems that this needless night
market will bring in. Variousvillagers, including the MLA pointed out how such
night markets,being tourist attractions, destroy Goa's villages in ways that
cannotbe repaired.TheMLA assured the delegation that asa policy, he does
notsupport night markets. He had earlier messaged:“Mystand is clear that I
don't endorse night markets that will kill thepeacefulvillage life of Saligao.
My dream is to recognise Saligao as aHeritage Village. I am for a market which
will encourageagriculturalproduceand artisansself-helpgroups,etc. I want a
designated and a dedicated market for fish,for vegetable.”ThePanchayat and
Communidade have firmly decided not to issue NOCs tothe night market. The MLA
is strongly backing these decisions. Allthe 3 authorities assured the
delegation that the proposed SaligaoNight Market will not happen.ThePanchayat
and Communidade are also working on a day market forSaligao agricultural
produce and other village products, as well as aFood Court that will house all
the illegal gaddos that aremushrooming in the village.Thosepresent were Lafira
Remedios Gomes (Sarpanch), Daya Kudnekar (panch),Daya Mandrekar (panch), Lucas
Remedios (panch), Austin D'Gama(Attorney of Saligao Communidade), Ramesh Ghadi,
Mario Mascarenhas,Nicholas Sequeira, Vimla D'Souza, Pradeep Padgaonkar,
Marjorie D'Sa,Pradip Parulekar, Muriel D'Souza, Suhail Kiran and Dean
