___ Government to appoint officers to settle forest cases:

The Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Parrikar today told the state legislative assembly that the government would post experienced officers, who worked in collectorate’s offices as forest settlement officers( FSO) for early settlement of the long pending cases of people who had claimed ownership rights on forest land.

Dr. Wilfed de Souza asked the government to post officers, who understand Portuguese language to verify the old documents. Mr. Parrikar assured in the House to post officers, who had experience in the collectorate’s office.( Courtesy--- The Navhind Times).

---Government plans to shift Calangute police station:

The state government has plans to shift the Calangute police station at a central location from the present place( *near Mater Dei Institution, Saligao), which is far from the busy Calangute-Candolim belt.

.Mr. Parrikar hinted of taking over the Provedoria building for constructing the police station building. However, he said the police outpost for saligao could be opened in the present police station building.( Courtesy—The Navhind Times).

 

--The annual feast of St. Anne’s will be celebrated on August 1, 2004, at St. Anne’s Chapel, Saligao, by the parishioners of the three wards namely Mudd’davaddi, Tabravaddo-Mollebhatt _ Aquem Mollebhatt and Donvaddo.

 For all the novenas the teaching will be on “ God’s word on Family Life”. .To-day’s celebrant and Preacher is Fr. Steve Rodrigues  Among others Fr.. Olavo Caiado, ex-chaplain of St.Anne and Prefect of Saligao Seminary will be preaching during one of  the novena day assigned to him. It is reliably learnt that Fr. Francisco Ataide, Parish Priest of Saligao will be the Celebrant at the Vespers on 31st July and  will preach the sermon God. Meanwhile on 23rd July Fr. Andrew Mascarenhas, the Padre Cura of Saligao requested the prayers of the people attending the novena for quick recovery of the parishioners including the author of these lines. Many thanks.

--- Family Values on decline:

 Noted writer and konkani activist Uday Bhembre has expressed deep concern over the declining family values in Goan society, which  he said is reflecting adversely on the new generation.. He cautioned the parents against consumerism, which has made the children indisciplined having the least regard for social, moral and ethical behaviour in society.

Advising parents to restrain from any acts or behaviour at home which may create a negative impact on the children, Bhembre stressed on the need for parents to take responsibility of taking care of the children. “ The role of both parents in the formation of a child is vital”, he added.

--‘Tainted Ministers’issue echoes in House.--- All the Opposition Congress MLAs including  NCP’s and Saligao MLA Dr. Wilfred de Souza were seen expressing their disinterest on questions enlisted for replies by  Mr. Dayanand Mandrekar and Mr. Francis D’Souza on non-conventional energy sources and information technology ( Courtesy- Herald)
