ST. ANNE’S CHAPEL---IX.

Solemn Blessing of the Reformed Chapel of Santa Ana de Saligao.

At 4.30 p.m. on 2nd February 1910—feast of the Purification of Our Lady—in the presence of Rev. Fr. Jose Francisco dos Remedios, the Chaplain of St. Anne, a very big number of priests and faithful, the Rt. Rev. Monsenhor Joao de Abreu, the Vicar General of the Archdiocese solemnly blessed, preceded by a triduum, the Reformed Chapel of St. Anne, situated in Mudd’davaddi of the Parish of Saligao placing thereby, after the procession, the images in the new retable(altar frame)in the following manner: That of St. Anne, the patroness, on the throne of the Altar; that of St. Joseph and St. Sebastian in the collateral niches; Our Lady of Remedios and St. Bartolomeu on either side of the superior part of the retable and in the middle a crucifix with images of Mother Mary, St. John and St. Mary Magdalene, these last four images offered by Mr .Joaquim Francisco Fernandes( Raza) of Donvaddo as a remembrance of the enlargement of the Chapel. All those present signed on the special book kept for recording the event.

On the same occasion Mr. Joao Marcelo Fernandes from Mudd’davaddi offered a reliquary in the form of a cross containing 16 other relics to the chapel

On 13th July, 1913, at a meeting of’ bairristas ,of the components of the Communidade de Chorao, the Fernandes’, resident in Saligao, offered a very rich vestment (galaum ) and other mass and altar objects to St. Anne’s chapel which were accepted. Fr. Valentino Fernandes a component of the said Communidade recorded the above donation in the minute book.

On 13th November, 1932, the ‘Capelistas’ assembled in the corridor of St. Anne, called for the meeting by its Procurador( Procurator):

A)In the first place the ‘bairristas’ gave a vote of thanks to the Chaplain Rev. Fr. Jose Francisco dos Remedios who worked so zealously serving the chapel for 25 years, from 1908 to 1932. It was requested that a copy of thanks be sent to Fr. Remedios.

B) Next they deliberated on the elevation of the fee of the chaplain to Rs. 100/-. As there was no chaplain they made a petition to the Patriarch to allow them to bring any priest for Sunday mass. The permission was granted. They paid Rs. 2/- for each Mass.

C) Finally a new Committee was chosen consisting of the following members:

President: Mr. Joao Francisco Marcelo Fernandes

Secretary: Mr. Rodolfo Napoleao Vaz( Don=vaddo)

Treasurer: Mr. Bernardo do Francisco dos Remedios( Tabravaddo)

And their respective substitutes were: Mr. Francisco Salvador Caridade dos Remedios( Tabravaddo), Mr.Jose Francisco Lobo( Donvaddo0 and Mr. Santana Caetano de Melo( Mudd’davaddi).

N.B. From this year1932 substitute members began to appear in the Committee. We shall speak about the highlight of this Committee in our next posting.
