Yesterday, July 1 (Friday) was the only day after a loooooong time, when
the power in Arrarim didn't fail even once in the day. The power
failures in Saligao's Arrarim section have been really bugging, and so a
lot of complaints have gone out.

The previous day, some of us spoke to the Chief Electrical Engineer on
phone. Surely there must have been other complaints from the village
which reached the right years.

Moral of the story: when you have a problem, do complain. Persistently.

Some numbers you can talk to: Chief Electrical Engineer Nirmal Braganza
242 2353 or 242 6022. Junior Engineer in Saligao David D'Mello 9422
062330. Saligao Electricity Office at Panchayat 2409490. Substation 240
7301 (phone often seems to be off the hook). Porvorim 241 7711.

When you ring up, often the officials will simply pass the buck. So
they'll tell you it's a high-tension or low-tension fault, not our work,
etc. Please persist politely -- after all, whoever's job it is, the
consumer has the right to get a non-interrupted power supply.

Incidentally, just as I type this note, the power has gone again....

Incidentally, this is how the officials acknowledged the problem, while
speaking to one newspaper. It's strange however that half of Saligao
remains in darkness, while the other half is okay. Obviously some
slip-up somewhere in the route or mode-of-transmission of power to
Arrarim. Officials now point back to the expected commissioning of the
Nagoa feeder, near the church just outside Saligao.... Whatever their
way out, the consumer needs a solution!

Trees falling on power mains cause electricity
         disruptions: Chief electrical engineer Nirmal
Braganza said in North Goa there were 310 cases
of trees or branches falling on power lines, while
in South Goa the number was 308 in the past week.
Worst affected areas were Calangute, Saligao,
Taleigao, Bicholim and Sattari. Salcete taluka,
followed by Sanguem and Mormugao bore the brunt
in South Goa. (Herald, July 1, 2005)

Thanks for your help and concern! FN
